Buried Treasure

Hey Friends,   "Out with the old and in with the new" as the old saying goes, usually means the end-of-year clean out of paperwork in the office.  However this clean out can turn into a real treasure hunt for buried "gold" in the art studio.  In the photo above are just a few pieces and works I found "buried" in the collage box (the home of works that I don't think are working and I don't know what to do with them).

Seen now with a fresh perspective I already have ideas on how to finish one or two with the addition of something realistic or something more abstract.  Others seem to simply need a few more layers of color and collage to be complete.   And some of the remaining pieces are fantastic "starts" or backgrounds to build upon.
What a way to start the New Year with a fresh supply of ideas and surfaces to paint on !!

Happy New Year  !

Tooting our Horn

Hey Friends,  We met last night at 2nd Helpings again for more collage work.  I was so engrossed in the process I totally forgot to take pictures !    So I thought it would be nice to just show you some of the paintings this wonderful group has SOLD in the last week.   Above is Judy Lochbrunner's collage she was working on last week at 2nd Helpings!  A sweet lady walked by and asked to buy it when Judy was finished.  So Judy delivered it last night !   These are the things artist dream about - Someone wants the piece before you are even finished ........
Here is a beauty Bonnie sold yesterday at Gallery 108 !  It's titled "Early Light" and I don't know who bought it but I know they made a wise choice.

Mary Anne sold a piece at 2nd Helpings yesterday also but it got away before she took a photo.

Linda sold a piece last week at Gallery 108 of gorgeous white roses and pomegranates.  She is busy with the holidays and hasn't sent a photo yet.

So that's our news for tonight.  More info on the collage workshop date next post.

Collage Workshop Plans

Hello Friends,  This is a photo from Thursday, Dec. 13th when we were at 2nd Helpings in Roanoke, Va.

The encouraging, helpful staff at this gallery had a table set up and waiting for us.  They really like when we, the Double Line Painters, can paint at their gallery.  The shoppers really seem to like this also.

We talked with several people about the Mixed Media Collage workshop we will teach at 2nd Helpings.  The gallery will be promoting this workshop (includes all supplies needed) and include a lunch for one really LOW price.  I just can't remember what date they have come up with.  I will let you know soon.  You might want to get on their email list.  Contact them at 2nd Helpings Gallery.org.

We always have a good time and enjoy a great lunch from the cafe.  All of their dishes are great.

Art in the Window

If you were in downtown Salem yesterday then you saw some live art in the making in the window at TINKERINGS, which is across from the Farmers Market on Main Street.  Linda Schaar (above) and Mary Ann Meador (below) and Judy Lochbrunner set up their easels, tables and chairs in the window.
Many folks walked by and cheered our efforts, some walked in the shop to say hello and get a closer look at the art and the shop.
All in all it was a fun day to paint and enjoy the holiday shopping crowd!  Thanks to everyone who came by Tinkerings.  And a special thanks to the owner, Katrina Baker for her hospitality.

Tinkerings has original art, prints and cards from some of the "Double Line Painters of the Blue Ridge" in stock and for sale.  Stop by and say "the Double Line Painters"  sent you.

Events Coming Up

Hey Friends,  A couple photos from our local Historical Museum here in Salem, Va.  They have a wreath auction every year.  Wreaths are decorated and donated by various business and individuals.  And they are all very pretty.
This is a post to let our local followers know what's coming up.  We, DLP, will be at TINKERINGS on Main St. in downtown Salem this Saturday, tomorrow, from about 11am til 2pm.  We will be painting small pieces of art IN the window.  Come out and watch us !

Then we will be at 2nd Helpings Gallery on Williamson Rd in Roanoke (not far from the big Roanoke Civic Center )on Thursday Dec. 13 from 11am to 2pm.  And again at 2nd Helpings on Thursday Dec.20 from 4pm to 6pm.  We will be painting small works or maybe some cards.  So try to come out and see how we work and peruse all the beautiful gifts available at this lovely gallery.  AND you will be benefiting  a great cause.
