Hello Dear Friends,  Hope you enjoy your evening, ringing in the New Year.  We will !  We got some new supplies and some new work done.  YAY!!
Judy got some new Inktense sticks/blocks.  She has been using them in some mixed media sketches from life.  She was inspired to do since the winter project for the Double Line Painters is STILL LIFE set ups.  January will bring our next get together.

And after going through 4 brushes (which all went in the trash), in an attempt to find one to sign her name, Judy, Santa came to the rescue.  5 new brushes above.

Sue has been busy with abstracts and very small still life's on Terra Skin (a paper made from rocks) and Yupo (a paper made from plastic !  Both are difficult to work on.  You need a bucket of patience.  Sue was using acrylics and thinks oils would be easier.

Now have a joyful festive time tonight.

Thank you for following our journey.
See You in 2018.

Hello Friends,  We hope your holiday schedule has been working as planned.  We have not had any bad weather here in SW Virginia to wreck havoc on our plans thus far in the final stretch of 2017.
YAY !!

We got together yesterday in Mary Anne's second studio, how many artist have 2 studios?
She set up a lovely still life in the corner and we enjoyed painting and small talk .

Then we had a delish lunch at AppleBee's, near by.

We do not plan on meeting again until mid January.  Everyone has a lot of family visits on their schedules and we have had a very busy 2017.  So we all need a long break and you may not hear too much from us for a couple weeks.

We hope 2017 finishes off with great joy for you.

This Sunday Dec. 10th Judy Lochbrunner will be at Goose Creek Studio for the Holiday Art Studio & Gallery Tour from 1 to 5pm.   Businesses in Centertown Bedford, Va. offering original art by Virginia artists will open their doors for you.
Judy will be doing a demo and hopes that you can come by to see all that is happening at the many locations that day.

Friday Dec. 15th, Mary Ann Meador and Judy Lochbrunner will be at the Glebe, Daleville, Va. to talk about the paintings and answer questions about the art in the Glebe's Art Gallery.  Their two-person show will run from Dec. 4, 2017 - Jan. 26, 2018.

Above are some practice pieces done by Linda Schaar after the tiny workshop at Art of the Carolina's.

Other fun news:

Our new website is up and running!  The Double Line Painters have switched to Fine Art Studio On-line and one of the perks (besides the beautiful website) is participation in a monthly  'Bold Brush' painting competition.

We want to congratulate Bonnie Mason as "Slow Summer Day" was selected as part of the jury's favorite 15% in the October Bold Brush Painting competition.  You can go to the page and vote for her painting if you'd like, which will help it show up on a page for popular entries.

Linda Schaar's "James River" painting will be the Double Line Painter's entry for the Nov. contest and Mary Anne Meador's "First Friday" will be our Dec. contest entry.

Not too many days left to get ready for the Holidays.
Hope your travels are safe but fun and may you complete everything on your list!

Hello Dear Friends,  It was time for us to pick up our art show at the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library in Covington yesterday.  We thank everyone who came to see the art for their wonderful comments as well as the library staff who were so helpful.

And it was a perfect day with beautiful blue skies to enjoy the fall color.  Kyle Keyser, who coordinates the library art displays, gave us a walking tour of the historic buildings downtown.  We enjoyed our tour and do have plans to return again for plein air.

Hope that you all had a chance to enjoy this warm November weather.

Hello Friends,  Hope all of you are enjoying the arrival of autumn.
The artists you see above love autumn but the weather man was IFFY about what would happen today so they chose to visit the TAUBMAN MUSEUM today.
The one artist missing is not so crazy about cold weather so she decided to head for the coast.

Click the link above and find out what exhibits are happening now at the museum.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Hello Friends,  I thought the photo above was unusual because when taking the photo I never noticed the inverted triangle that mirrors the Peaks.  DUH.

The entrance to the lodge restaurant is very pretty for the season.

My view across Abbott Lake.  Bonnie and Linda are visible, just barely.  And they both had lovely plein air pieces.

Judy and Mary Anne making their way down the steep path to the picnic tables.  What I found a wee bit disturbing is the image just to the right of Judy.  I never saw this until I was resizing some photos taken today.  Do ya think it could be a lost soul?  Maybe a lost hiker or a bear victim?  That only shows up at this time of year?  Just to spook the rangers and hotel guests???

Back on a sunny note - Mary Anne in full warm sun, creating a master piece.

And here we are lunching and critiquing and laughing.  Having a good ole time in the daylight in the spooky woods.

It's coming folks !  Are you ready?

Hello Friends,  Yes, we did.  Yes, it was a hard day.  Yes, that IS Shelley and can't you tell by her face what a Ruff day it was ?
We love this woman and if you don't know, she is one of the kindest, most generous persons walking this earth.

We all got at least one painting done today.   Judy may have done 2.

Mary Anne already finished one and starting another!

Linda on her first.

Sue thinks she did two.  They have to be studied a bit.

This fantastic farm belongs to Shelley's SON.  I would love to show some photo's of the landscape but we don't want everyone to know.  It's a plein air secret.  We do hope to go back if Mother Nature ever sees fit to change the leaves.
Or maybe snows.

Thank you for coming by.

Hello Friends,  We Double Line Painters went to Sinkland Farms just outside of Christiansburg today.
There is a wealth of vistas to paint and a lot of activities for the wee ones.

This beautiful farm has a lot of little people visiting.  They come by the bus loads.  All hyper, squealing and ready to run.  They love it here too.

Not for sure but it looks like Mary Anne is working on 2 canvas'.  We call that Passion.

This is the pretty little vignette Sue chose to paint.  And she said it turned out to be a complicated little piece.

Judy is taking in the Big Picture.  Wonder if the horses made the cut.

This is a view that I liked a lot.  Susan is quite the inventive lady using all this natural bling in such creative ways.  Did you notice the Tin Man or the Turbine Head up there?  LOVE that.

Stay tuned, next week we plan to be in the Smith Mountain Lake area.

Until then, HAPPY TRAILS

Hello Friends,  What a beautiful day we had at this sunflower farm in Buchanan.  The young lady above is Candace and she was gracious enough to let all of us come to her farm and paint !
Thank You Candace.
CLICK HERE to visit their FB page.

One of the sunflower fields.  Will be gone soon.

Some villagers on the back side of the farm.

Linda and Bonnie finishing up their starts.  All five of us were spread out over acres so I only got a few shots of anyone at work.

Judy sent this photo.  It was right around the corner from me and I never saw it.

But isn't that a lovely way to spell LOVE?

Until next time have a wonderful week with your paints and loved ones.

Hello Friends,  Yesterday was a beautiful day here in South West Virginia and we took advantage of it the best way we know how !  We plein air painted in Roaring Run a National Recreation Area, in the Eagle Rock area of Botetourt County.
You can see the beauty above.

Judy and I were in the same general area so I was able to get a photo of  her finishing up her 3 little studies.  From here it looks like one study but it's 3 butted together.  She told me she set the timer on her phone and did each one in 20 minutes.  They were about 4-5 inches square.
She feels happier with these timed studies instead of spending all of her time on one because she winds up fiddly too much, or overworking is a better term.

I remembered to stop and take a few photos as I worked.  About half way in this photo.
I was real happy with this one.  I did not Overwork it !  And enjoyed the process more than usual.  Maybe it was because I was comfortable on my new art pack/chair.  And I was using oils which are of course more forgiving than acrylics.  Just have to wait forever to dry.

The other ladies were packed up and ready for lunch by the time I got close enough to photograph them.  I think they did it on purpose. HeeHee

ALL IN ALL - another day well spent with paints and friends.

Here is a toast to Mother Nature.

Hello Dear Friends,
The unsettled weather did not deter a few of us this morning.  We set up under cover of the picnic pavilion at Garst Mill Park in Roanoke.  The weather changed from cloudy to partly cloudy to sunny and then raining with the sun shining and back to clouds

Mary Anne set up looking towards the path to the tennis court area.  She brought a well-organzied box filled with little covered containers of acrylic paint.  There is a photo with a closer look at the box.

Linda set up and looked directly across the path to the wooded area.

Judy placed her easel at the opposite end of the pavilion (west?) and painted the early changes of color in the leaves of the large trees by the path.  She painted three “timed” studies to capture the scene without too many details.

Despite the weather conditions our pre-planning for cover worked well as we all enjoyed a successful morning of painting topped off with a yummy lunch out.

We hope for better weather next week so check back!
