the HARDEST JOB IN THE WORLD

Hello Friends,  Yes, we did.  Yes, it was a hard day.  Yes, that IS Shelley and can't you tell by her face what a Ruff day it was ?
We love this woman and if you don't know, she is one of the kindest, most generous persons walking this earth.

We all got at least one painting done today.   Judy may have done 2.

Mary Anne already finished one and starting another!

Linda on her first.

Sue thinks she did two.  They have to be studied a bit.

This fantastic farm belongs to Shelley's SON.  I would love to show some photo's of the landscape but we don't want everyone to know.  It's a plein air secret.  We do hope to go back if Mother Nature ever sees fit to change the leaves.
Or maybe snows.

Thank you for coming by.

SINKLAND FARMS IN RINER, VA. IS THE PLACE TO BE

Hello Friends,  We Double Line Painters went to Sinkland Farms just outside of Christiansburg today.
There is a wealth of vistas to paint and a lot of activities for the wee ones.

This beautiful farm has a lot of little people visiting.  They come by the bus loads.  All hyper, squealing and ready to run.  They love it here too.

Not for sure but it looks like Mary Anne is working on 2 canvas'.  We call that Passion.

This is the pretty little vignette Sue chose to paint.  And she said it turned out to be a complicated little piece.

Judy is taking in the Big Picture.  Wonder if the horses made the cut.

This is a view that I liked a lot.  Susan is quite the inventive lady using all this natural bling in such creative ways.  Did you notice the Tin Man or the Turbine Head up there?  LOVE that.

Stay tuned, next week we plan to be in the Smith Mountain Lake area.

Until then, HAPPY TRAILS

PLEIN AIRE PAINTING @ A SUNFLOWER FARM IN BUCHANAN

Hello Friends,  What a beautiful day we had at this sunflower farm in Buchanan.  The young lady above is Candace and she was gracious enough to let all of us come to her farm and paint !
Thank You Candace.
CLICK HERE to visit their FB page.

One of the sunflower fields.  Will be gone soon.

Some villagers on the back side of the farm.

Linda and Bonnie finishing up their starts.  All five of us were spread out over acres so I only got a few shots of anyone at work.

Judy sent this photo.  It was right around the corner from me and I never saw it.

But isn't that a lovely way to spell LOVE?

Until next time have a wonderful week with your paints and loved ones.

ROARING RUN IN BOTETOURT COUNTY

Hello Friends,  Yesterday was a beautiful day here in South West Virginia and we took advantage of it the best way we know how !  We plein air painted in Roaring Run a National Recreation Area, in the Eagle Rock area of Botetourt County.
You can see the beauty above.

Judy and I were in the same general area so I was able to get a photo of  her finishing up her 3 little studies.  From here it looks like one study but it's 3 butted together.  She told me she set the timer on her phone and did each one in 20 minutes.  They were about 4-5 inches square.
She feels happier with these timed studies instead of spending all of her time on one because she winds up fiddly too much, or overworking is a better term.

I remembered to stop and take a few photos as I worked.  About half way in this photo.
I was real happy with this one.  I did not Overwork it !  And enjoyed the process more than usual.  Maybe it was because I was comfortable on my new art pack/chair.  And I was using oils which are of course more forgiving than acrylics.  Just have to wait forever to dry.

The other ladies were packed up and ready for lunch by the time I got close enough to photograph them.  I think they did it on purpose. HeeHee

ALL IN ALL - another day well spent with paints and friends.

Here is a toast to Mother Nature.

PLEIN AIRE PAINTING INSPITE OF THE WEATHER

Hello Dear Friends,
The unsettled weather did not deter a few of us this morning.  We set up under cover of the picnic pavilion at Garst Mill Park in Roanoke.  The weather changed from cloudy to partly cloudy to sunny and then raining with the sun shining and back to clouds

Mary Anne set up looking towards the path to the tennis court area.  She brought a well-organzied box filled with little covered containers of acrylic paint.  There is a photo with a closer look at the box.

Linda set up and looked directly across the path to the wooded area.

Judy placed her easel at the opposite end of the pavilion (west?) and painted the early changes of color in the leaves of the large trees by the path.  She painted three “timed” studies to capture the scene without too many details.

Despite the weather conditions our pre-planning for cover worked well as we all enjoyed a successful morning of painting topped off with a yummy lunch out.

We hope for better weather next week so check back!

Congrats are in order for their successful sales and contacts.

Above is Judy's display.

Above is Mary Anne's display in the early morning.

They had one of the best weather days ever at this festival.
Judy said the beautiful weather brought out huge crowds and serious shoppers.

When you do outdoor shows you never know what Mother Nature will throw at you.
So we are happy you guys had a wonderful day.

NEW WORKS OF ART AT GOOSE CREEK GALLERY

Hello Friends,  Judy and Mary Anne hung new works of art at Goose Creek Gallery in Bedford, Va. today.

If you ask me it looks pretty darned good.  It's funny how well they go together.

We all have such different styles you would think it would be a problem.
Or could it be that Judy and Mary Anne are just SO DARNED good at this?

We will have new work up again in November for the Holidays !!  Can you believe I said that? !
YEP, the Summer is over, school is back in session, the birds are flying south, the Hurricanes are swirling everywhere and the Lynchburg Art Festival is this coming Saturday.

Yep, time to be thinking about the Holidays.

WE ARE STILL AS BUSY AS EVER !!!

Hello Friends,  Just a note from some of the Double Liner's to say we hope you have signed up through the Lynchburg Art Club for the NO BRUSHES WORKSHOP on Aug. 26th.  It will be a lot of fun.  Not your ordinary workshop.

Judy says of her photo at the top, the first on top is finished.  The next is started and the rest are waiting.  Time to get to work.
And Linda sent this photo of her latest work, HOLLYHOCKS, getting ready for a show we will hang at the end of August in Covington.

And Sue is ready for the Covington Show and the LAC workshop so her painting above was painted at South Peak in Roanoke across from Tanglewood Mall on Rt. 419.
She is trying to hone her plein air skills, what little she has.  And those are not tubes of Chapstick in her landscape above, they are water towers !

We wish you a very happy, hot, end of summer week .

THE RECEPTION AT THE LYNCHBURG ART CLUB

Hello Dear Friends,  We were real happy to see some of you at our reception last night in Lynchburg.
I was told we had a record number of people !

We managed to get good photos of everyone except Bonnie.  But got several photos of her beautiful work.  There is the talented Linda with her work.

And one visitor studying our work.  Bonnie's big one shows up nicely over the imaginary couch.

And the talented Gardening Artist Judy with one of her Floral Beauties.

And the OH So talented Mary Anne chatting with the Alcohol Control Lady.

And the SO SO talented Sue with her abstracted Landscape.

One good shot of a few of the attendees.  The Lynchburg Art Club always puts on a delish reception with lots of choices that draw the visitors right in.  We all had to get a taste before starting our perusal of the creative offerings.  I would be willing to bet everyone found something that would match their couch !
This exhibit will be up through the end of August so you have time to go find the beauty that will go with your couch.  Check their website HERE for hours and directions.

We thank You for Your Support.
