Plein Aire at the Former HUFFMAN Farm at 311

Hello Friends,  It was a beautiful day to be outside among all the wonders Nature has to offer.
This place is a historical marker but when you leave the cement walks, you find yourself in a beautiful environment.  Almost like civilization wasn't there.
The statue is a Mr. Jones (can't remember first name).

And this is some of the cement recently installed so travelers could get over Mason's Creek to stretch their legs and water the dogs.

I'm on the higher side of the creek and that is Bonnie making her way back after photographing the big, beautiful boulders.

This is one of my paintings, still on the upper side.  This little run off feeds into Mason Creek.  If you walk further up this little fire road, you would think you were at the Peaks of Otter.  Giant cliffs, boulders and Mountain Laurel....Beautiful.

This is Judy and Bonnie.  Judy was painting some of the smooth, water worn rocks, as you might be able to see below.  And Bonnie was in the shade painting Judy !  Bonnie said it was so dark under the bridge she had to do double takes on her paints.

We all enjoyed this gorgeous day, except for 2 members, who had family duties to take care of.
We made a few final decisions about our workshop, this Saturday, the 24th, at the Evergreen Lavender Farm in Appomattox.  We believe the class is almost full but if you would like to join in,  please click HERE for Bonnie Swanson at the Lavender Farm to register.

This is a FUN class and you will go home with your own creation of the farm, not a paint by number class like so many of the "Sip&Paint" offerings.

Hope to see you there.

Hello Friends.  Today was our day to practice and make sure everything we need was accounted for.

We are holding a workshop at the beautiful EVERGREEN LAVENDER FARM in Appomattox again this year.  This is a half day workshop, utilizing a large and odd variety of stuff to paint with.

Top photos show the artists cutting stencils in case anyone wants to give them a try.
And a couple shots of some piece almost finished.

We try very hard not to make anyone feel intimidated or scared to get started on their master piece, so we thought it a good idea NOT to polish what we worked on today.

If you haven't signed up for this workshop, do so very soon.  We can accommodate only 18.  This will be held Saturday  June 24 from 10am til Noon.  And what a fabulous place to have a workshop.

The Fathers Day Festival is day after tomorrow, June17th  and it's standing room only !
We hope there will be enough lavender left for us to paint.
Don't worry, the blooms will recover within a week!

Hope to see you on the 24th and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask us or Bonnie at the Lavender Farm.

Hello Friends,  Yesterday, the 8th of June, we, the DLP's went downtown to the Catholic Church, thinking we could set up in an empty parking lot (school is out) but they were having their graduation ceremony so the lots were full.

No where to set up without being in the way.
So we just wandered and took photo's.

The front that was moving through brought beautiful clouds, so we had some dramatic scenery.
Now if we can just keep the memories alive when we paint from our photos, you should see some beautiful paintings soon.
The Blue Ridge Mountains looked so blue !!

Summer is almost here, now's the time to celebrate.

Hello Friends,  Day after tomorrow is Friday June 9th and also the Art Walk in Bedford, Va.

Just taking this moment to remind you if you haven't been to Goose Creek Gallery in Bedford in the past month, Friday will be a great time to go.

Linda and myself, Sue, will be there to meet you and give a little more info about this display of big art.  All 5 of the works are 36" x 48".  This size is a first for most of us and lots of fun to make.

We hope to see you and direct you to one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the area after our visit.
You will NOT be disappointed with the art show or the restaurant.

Please come and make Linda and Sue HAPPY !

Hello Friends,  Yesterday was a beautiful day for painting outside (Plein Air) and so is this day.
Get your gear out!!
Mary Anne is already tired of all the green so she chose to paint the BREW HOUSE's Patio.
She still needs to add the umbrellas but it is already a beauty.

Linda had a hard time deciding which view to paint so she decided to sketch some and work at home.

Sue went over into the playground area where all the GREEN is !  She got a photo of a couple more interesting spots to paint at home.

Mary Anne,  Linda and Sue were the only creatives out this time.
Judy & Bonnie were busy with family.

Hope you are enjoying all the greens brought on by all ours rains this spring.
First day of summer is right around the corner.
Be very careful, I saw a 3 ft. rattle snake yesterday.

Hello Friends,  Today was a chilly, sunless day here in SW Virginia but much more pleasant than what some states are dealing with.   And we still had a good time and painted the beauty found at our local community college.

VWCC has benches everywhere for enjoying the surroundings or for painters.

Some still want a broader view so they stand.

And some blend into the background much like the deer.

There was plenty of color even this early.  Roses, rhodies, iris, and blooming trees.
The volunteers were working fast and furious on the front, roadside beds before the rains move in again.  I hope everyone appreciates their labor.  They make this place special.

Thanks for staying long enough to see what's happening.

Hello Friends,  A quick note for you today.  Wanted to Toot Our Horn a bit.
The photo above was cute so I included it.  Something was funny.

This shot is Judy Lochbrunner accepting her award for BEST in the ACRYLIC Division.
Just wanted everyone to know her hard work has earned her some recognition.

This small art festival is set in a very nice little park in DT Lexington and was a very pleasant
way to pass a Saturday on the hottest day so far this year.  Thanks sent to their committee.

Hello Friends,  We, the DLP's, went to Bedford, Va. yesterday afternoon to support Goose Creek's Studio/Gallery with their Chamber of Commerce event.

We first went to the Wharton Garden (located 'tween the library and Bower Center) to start a plein air painting or two, which we intended to finish while at the Goose Creek Event.

Here you can see the people are beginning to arrive and Linda and Mary Anne are setting up their plein air gear again.  Patrick back there in the royal blue.

Here is a demo going on about making silk scarves and my gear with the 2nd painting from Wharton Garden.  A wood worker is there in the green shirt.

An interior shot, a few minutes later, you couldn't walk, it was so crowded.
Taken from the rear of gallery.

A beautiful gallery, loaded with beauty for your home and so close to Roanoke.
Taken from the front of the gallery.

Hopefully the artist, Pat Daughtery, will not mind showing her work.
Her paintings of Patrick and Mitchell, the cosmopolitan owners of Goose Creek.

Don't miss our next post about the "BIG X 5" Art Show going up first of May here at Goose Creek Studio's.
Some of the DLP's will be at the Lexington ART ON THE GREEN in the morning.
Hope to see you there.

Hello Friends,  Lovely, Lovely Day it was.  And it found us headed for Fincastle and the hill top with their cemetery.  This is a pretty steep little incline for lugging all your painting equipment.

Some of us are better at reducing the load than others.  Doesn't matter, we can take our time and soak up all the wonderful sounds, smells and sights along the way.

Just need to be mindful of where you step.

And I made a few short video's.  Worked much better with this camera.  I would like to post a couple more but feel I must get permission first.  They didn't know they were being videoed so I had better be safe.

Spring is HERE......Get out there and enjoy. It's gone before you know it.
Happy Easter to Everyone.

Hello Friends,  We met at Longwood Park in Salem, Va. this morning.  We planned on painting for a bit but Mother Nature said NO.  It is chilly and misty/foggy and a fairly swift breeze up on top of their hill.

So we just finished up some of the details, like postcards, for our show at 2nd Helpings Gallery in Roanoke, Va.  The show opens on April 4th.
The reception will be April 8th from 1 - 3pm and the artists will be painting.  So please plan to stop by and say hello and watch us paint.

SPRING SENSATIONS  is the title of the show.  You will find art work that reflects the warm, sometimes cool, and wonderful sensations that we call Spring.  My favorite time of the year !

2nd Helpings has a wonderful little cafe and you can have lunch after wards.

See You There
Sue, Judy, Linda, Mary Anne and Bonnie
