WE ARE STILL AS BUSY AS EVER !!!

Hello Friends,  Just a note from some of the Double Liner's to say we hope you have signed up through the Lynchburg Art Club for the NO BRUSHES WORKSHOP on Aug. 26th.  It will be a lot of fun.  Not your ordinary workshop.

Judy says of her photo at the top, the first on top is finished.  The next is started and the rest are waiting.  Time to get to work.
And Linda sent this photo of her latest work, HOLLYHOCKS, getting ready for a show we will hang at the end of August in Covington.

And Sue is ready for the Covington Show and the LAC workshop so her painting above was painted at South Peak in Roanoke across from Tanglewood Mall on Rt. 419.
She is trying to hone her plein air skills, what little she has.  And those are not tubes of Chapstick in her landscape above, they are water towers !

We wish you a very happy, hot, end of summer week .

THE RECEPTION AT THE LYNCHBURG ART CLUB

Hello Dear Friends,  We were real happy to see some of you at our reception last night in Lynchburg.
I was told we had a record number of people !

We managed to get good photos of everyone except Bonnie.  But got several photos of her beautiful work.  There is the talented Linda with her work.

And one visitor studying our work.  Bonnie's big one shows up nicely over the imaginary couch.

And the talented Gardening Artist Judy with one of her Floral Beauties.

And the OH So talented Mary Anne chatting with the Alcohol Control Lady.

And the SO SO talented Sue with her abstracted Landscape.

One good shot of a few of the attendees.  The Lynchburg Art Club always puts on a delish reception with lots of choices that draw the visitors right in.  We all had to get a taste before starting our perusal of the creative offerings.  I would be willing to bet everyone found something that would match their couch !
This exhibit will be up through the end of August so you have time to go find the beauty that will go with your couch.  Check their website HERE for hours and directions.

We thank You for Your Support.

HANGING THE LAC SHOW "GAURANTEED TO MATCH YOUR COUCH

Hello Dear Friends,  As usual we are some busy artists !  These photos were taken at the Lynchburg Art Clubs Home on Rivermont Ave. in Lynchburg, Va.

Basically we placed all the works where we wanted them to be hung.

We had to get a few off the floor in the office area so the members could walk.
Bonnie and Judy got it done in short order.

Of course we had our usual moments of merriment and tom-foolery but no photos to prove it.

Back in the office Judy is hanging 2 of Bonnie's Beauties. Bonnie is a gal on fire in the gallery world.  Next thing ya know she will be in New York with Brian Rutenberg!!
And that is Doni Guggenheim in the gorgeous coral color.

We hope you can come to the reception Friday Evening at the LAC.
The poster is below with times and dates.

Here we are packing up cars Monday night because we wanted to make sure all the big paintings that will match your couch's  would fit !  You gotta come see these BIG'UN'S if nothing else.

And don't forget to sign up for the workshop at the LAC while you are there.

EXPLORE PARK FOR PLEIN AIR PAINTING

Hello Dear Friends,

A small group of us met at Explore Park today.  It was good to see how the park is back to life after being closed for several years.  We are so happy that Roanoke County is now in its second year of taking care of it and has great plans for this wonderful place.  (Read more about Explore Park at http://www.explorepark.org/231/Explore-Park)

We separated into two groups as Linda and Mary Anne were both trying out new plein air equipment and they stayed up at the historic Brugh’s Tavern.

Judy traveled down to “Journey’s End” to the area where the largest grouping of historic buildings are located.  She painted the Leininger Cabin.  She had painted this cabin before but wanted to repeat the painting with the (new to her) Open Acrylics.

It is easy to overlook those days of practice as they are not flashy or exciting …….but oh so important.

We hope you have a grand weekend

PLEIN AIR AT CLIFTON FORGE SCHOOL OF ART

Hello Friends,  Four of the Double Line Painters had a pleasant morning in Clifton Forge today.
Yep, we like these sleepy little towns within an hour of the Roanoke/Salem area.

And it was about a 1/2 degree cooler there !

In these photos we are behind the Clifton Forge School of Arts.  They have a lovely creek and a flowering garden that we all enjoyed putting on canvas.

And Judy took this photo of me with Henrietta Crandall, one of the directors.  A lovely lady whose work I LOVE.  She gave me a tour of the big mill that houses studios and a supply store and an exhibit space AND a huge party room.
I love it there and they do so much for their community by way of youth classes and music events and yoga classes.  Something for everyone.
Check out their FB page HERE.

NEW ART WORK INSTALLED AT GOOSE CREEK IN BEDFORD, VA.

The BIG times 5 show has come down at Goose Creek and we so appreciated the opportunity to be up front in the gallery.  Happily we are now back to our comfortable and friendly walls in the back of the studio.  We have delivered a wide variety of shapes, sizes, styles and subjects just in time for 2nd Fridays in Bedford.  Everyone should be able to find a painting that they would enjoy purchasing.

There is no better way to spend a warm July Friday evening than strolling downtown Bedford and visiting the artisan trail shops, art center and galleries including Goose Creek Studio. This month is extra special with the opening of Beale's Brewery & BBQ at 510 Grove Street to add to the selection of dinner options.  We hope to see you at 2nd Fridays on July 14 from 5 - 8 PM.

We will have another post tomorrow and hope you will come back to see what is next in our line-up!

NEW SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT

Hello Friends,  Having a great summer so far?  Tired of the rain yet?

The Double Line Painters will have their paintings on display at the Shenandoah Club in Downtown Roanoke.  Mary Anne, Sue, Linda, and Judy will have a group show July 17th through the end of August.  Bonnie will have a solo show beginning in September.

The Shenandoah Club, located at 24 Franklin Rd. in Roanoke, is the oldest, continuously-operating private club in Virginia, having been established by the original members in 1893.  For more than a century, the club has provided members with a quiet and luxurious setting for lunches and dinners, receptions, business meetings, educational events, holiday programs and other activities for the lady and gentlemen members, their children and guests

The public may come view the art between the hours of 2-4 in the afternoon Monday through Friday. No appointment necessary.

Above is just one example of the work to be hung.

We sincerely hope you can arrange a visit to view the beautiful new works.

PLEIN AIRE AT THE LOCAL CARVINS COVE

Hello Good Friends,
Maybe it was because so many people were headed out of town to the beach or to the lake for the holiday weekend that we decided to change our original plans for the morning.  The morning was bright and comfortable so we met by the water at Carvins Cove.  While many people visit the park to boat, hike or picnic, there is no doubt what we came to do as seen on the day pass.

Mary Anne painted the boats, Judy set up near the road along the shore and Linda chose a spot a little further inland with a larger view of the park.   We were all working with acrylic paints.   Linda painted with a limited palette completing a couple studies in her notebook.  Mary Anne was painting a more finished work of the boats tied up at the dock.  Judy’s was a small 6x6 study of the mountains and water

It was an excellent start to the 4th of July holiday.
We hope you have a good and safe 4th of July weekend also.

ANOTHER FABULOUS WORKSHOP AT EVERGREEN LAVENDER FARM

Hello Friends,  Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday.  Nice and cool out there.
This post is to show you the wonderful workshop held yesterday, Sat. the 24th at the Evergreen Lavender Farm in Appomattox, Va.
Bonnie Swanson is the gracious host for this workshop and the hard working woman that keeps this farm so beautiful.  You'll never want to leave.

Just a couple views of the farm.  It is all so pretty, hard to narrow down to just 2 shots.

The students dug right in and were soon on their way to a finished masterpiece.

Each lady had a unique interpretation of the farm.  And they did such a good job, we are always inspired by their enthusiasm.

They did not use any brushes !  They used a variety of household items and their fingers.
There was a wonderful breeze all day so we had to use small rocks to hold the palettes down.

These 2 friends were especially proud of their creations and wanted their own photo to share.

Here is the line up.  A couple students left before we realized it (spouses were waiting for them).  We are sorry they are not in the line up.  Click on the photo to make it bigger and see all the different views.  We were impressed and feel like the students were too.
Just think of what they could do if they came back for another workshop!

Thank you Bonnie for allowing us to hold workshops at your fabulous Farm.

You can always get in touch with Bonnie or us with questions about the next workshop.

Plein Aire at the Former HUFFMAN Farm at 311

Hello Friends,  It was a beautiful day to be outside among all the wonders Nature has to offer.
This place is a historical marker but when you leave the cement walks, you find yourself in a beautiful environment.  Almost like civilization wasn't there.
The statue is a Mr. Jones (can't remember first name).

And this is some of the cement recently installed so travelers could get over Mason's Creek to stretch their legs and water the dogs.

I'm on the higher side of the creek and that is Bonnie making her way back after photographing the big, beautiful boulders.

This is one of my paintings, still on the upper side.  This little run off feeds into Mason Creek.  If you walk further up this little fire road, you would think you were at the Peaks of Otter.  Giant cliffs, boulders and Mountain Laurel....Beautiful.

This is Judy and Bonnie.  Judy was painting some of the smooth, water worn rocks, as you might be able to see below.  And Bonnie was in the shade painting Judy !  Bonnie said it was so dark under the bridge she had to do double takes on her paints.

We all enjoyed this gorgeous day, except for 2 members, who had family duties to take care of.
We made a few final decisions about our workshop, this Saturday, the 24th, at the Evergreen Lavender Farm in Appomattox.  We believe the class is almost full but if you would like to join in,  please click HERE for Bonnie Swanson at the Lavender Farm to register.

This is a FUN class and you will go home with your own creation of the farm, not a paint by number class like so many of the "Sip&Paint" offerings.

Hope to see you there.

MAKING SURE THE DUCKS ARE IN A ROW

Hello Friends.  Today was our day to practice and make sure everything we need was accounted for.

We are holding a workshop at the beautiful EVERGREEN LAVENDER FARM in Appomattox again this year.  This is a half day workshop, utilizing a large and odd variety of stuff to paint with.

Top photos show the artists cutting stencils in case anyone wants to give them a try.
And a couple shots of some piece almost finished.

We try very hard not to make anyone feel intimidated or scared to get started on their master piece, so we thought it a good idea NOT to polish what we worked on today.

If you haven't signed up for this workshop, do so very soon.  We can accommodate only 18.  This will be held Saturday  June 24 from 10am til Noon.  And what a fabulous place to have a workshop.

The Fathers Day Festival is day after tomorrow, June17th  and it's standing room only !
We hope there will be enough lavender left for us to paint.
Don't worry, the blooms will recover within a week!

Hope to see you on the 24th and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask us or Bonnie at the Lavender Farm.
